Van Gogh might not be crazy

I just heard a news story about Vincent Van Gogh - the famous painter (of Starry Night) that supposedly cut off his own ear.  Some historians are now claiming that he did not go crazy and cut off his own ear, but only said he did in order to protect his friend.  His friend was an apparently some sort of fencer, and cut off Van Gogh's ear.  Not sure if it was done deliberate or not, but Van Gogh supposedly said he did it himself to cover up for his friend.  He didn't want his friend going to jail...

umm... several issues ....

1. first of all, how in the world do you find all that out????
2. wtf ... who cares, he's still an amazing painter ...
3. ummm ... again, wtf ...
